A little about Vero Won of 4-5

VEROWON OF FORTUNE-FIVE ENT
PRESENTS... EYE CANDY GIRL

What’s up Jcom-munity! It’s your boy Jaff. I know it’s been a minute since I’ve hit up the blog, but just to give you a brief recap of the last couple of weeks...I’ve been on the grind, representing Jcom clothing to the fullest! Hitting up shows like Lily Allen (my future wifey...lol), K-oS, and incase you were living under a rock...a dude you might have heard of, I think his name was hmmm...oh yeah..DRAKE lol. I also took the time to check out some other events including DJ PPLUS’ website launch party, feat. Saukrates, Colin Munroe, Andreena Mill, King Reign, Tona, JD Era, Rochester, and hosted by Matte Babel. As well I got the chance to attend the Goodboy clothing fashion show, which was a real good look. It served as a huge inspiration as to where we here at Just Compton Clothing will be in the NEAR, NEAR future. And there’s no doubt in my mind that with all of your much appreciated, and continued support... along with a lot of hard work on our part... we’ll make it there!

With that out of the way...I promise I’ve returned with something huge! Another BIG move for a local Toronto artist, who is first class FAM all the way...and if you didn’t know before, I take great pleasure in introducing you to a refreshing voice in the T-dot’s hip-hop scene...of course I’m talking about VERO WON.

“Vero Won (or Vero as his close friends call him) is one of those purists. Tired of all the fronting and tomfoolery, he's calling all phoney rappers out. "The way hip-hop is right now, it's ok to lie," says the 30-year-old shifting his large 6'4 frame on a couch in producer Sos' Scarborough studio. "I'm not gonna hide away from who I am."

That’s just a little insight into the mindset and outlook on how Vero approaches his music. Coming up with his best friends (more like a band of brothers); Ry-know (emcee) and SoS (producer/emcee), they would kick freestyles, attend numerous battles, and share ideas in their mutual love and respect of REAL hip-hop, and just music in general. This eventually led to the formation of their group, “The Fortune-Five” aka “The Four-Five”.

As a part of “The Four-Five” Vero achieved some success in the form of many recordings, including a compilation of songs (“Music and Push-ups”) that was well received for the group’s overall lyrical content and unique sound (songs like “Be A Lady” and “The Hip Hop Show”) The songs got a huge number of plays on the groups MySpace page (myspace.com/thefourfive) which garnered tens of thousands of hits. As well the group attracted a lot of attention as a result of being featured in some major publications, including “The Metro” Newspaper.

After a brief hiatus to regroup and spend some time focusing on other endeavours, The Fortune-Five is now stronger than ever. But this time it’s with Vero Won stepping out on his own. Vero has continually been mastering his own sound and working on material for his upcoming solo mixtape release. He’s a gifted emcee with a lot to say about a lot of different topics...and with his own mixtape; Vero has created that platform to get his message out.

“He’s hungry he says, and he really wants it. With all of his posturing and harsh words for the current state of hip-hop, he's just like every other emcee that just wants in. Underlying his imposing physical presence and confident demeanour is that telltale vulnerability that shadows all artists yearning for their come-uppance. Sure, he wants the fame, the props and the girls but above it all, Vero just wants to be liked. "I want people to say, I like this guy Vero. I (just) wanna be able to mesh with the backpackers, the thugs, whoever because, we all listen to the same music."

This weekend I had the privilege of attending the “Rock Da Boat” party aboard the “Stella Borealis”. With the Toronto city skyline serving as the backdrop, it was the perfect venue for Vero Won’s single/mixtape release party. And towards the end of a great night, filled with great music, food, and friends...that’s when I heard it. Vero Won feat. Sav aka S.Banger on the production...”Eye Candy Girl”. It instantly became a hit with the crowd and had the whole dance floor moving to the music. With its up-tempo beat, smooth lyrics, and a catchy hook...Vero Won’s “Eye Candy Girl” is a bonafide summer banger!!!

So without any further adieu... Jaff and Jcom Clothing proudly present to you...VERO WON’S BRAND NEW SINGLE...”EYE CANDY GIRL”. Remember where you heard it first!!!...and stay tuned to the blog for more info on how you can copp VERO WON’S MIXTAPE in its entirety... Just Compton Clothing...
